“TV IS BAD FOR US AND THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE WITHOUT IT”

It’s true that TV takes a lot of time from the people. When someone is watching TV on the sofa, this person could be doing homework, making plans with friends, doing exercise or something healthier than lying in the sofa. However TV is something important in someone’s life if this person watches it only to spend free time. Not in excess, I think TV isn’t bad for us.

I don’t agree with this sentence because TV isn’t a problem if you are aware of the amount of time you watch it. It is only a way to spend your free time. Some people, when they are bored, they turn on TV and they enjoy it. In my opinion, if the world isn’t good enough, it isn’t TV’s fault, it is for humans’ fault. It’s clear that TV broadcasts some educative programmes like documentaries, game shows, the news, the weather… and people approve of it but not much. They only think about the bad things on TV and they make a mistake thinking like this.

However, I believe that if someone watches TV a lot, it’s bad for him. I agree with people who say that there is a lot of advertising and there are some sitcoms that begin too late at night and the next day you must wake up early in the morning. There are also bad things, for example, violence, and some people, like parents are worried about it because their children shouldn’t watch it. Another bad thing about the TV is that it damages the communication with your parents.

In conclusion, I think that TV isn’t bad for us and our world if you don’t watch it too much. Also, I think parents must be alert and turn off the TV when their children are watching something violent. When there is a sitcom which begins too late, you can record it and see it the next day.

TRIP TO ITALY

ITALY

Last summer, I went to Italy with my classmates from Escola Pia. It was our last trip together so this trip became the best trip we have ever done. Italy is a peninsula which lies below Switzerland and Austria. Italy is a pretty different place from Olot. Italy used to be extremely crowded and Olot is only crowded on specific days. However, if I compare Italy with Barcelona, they are more similar.

In Italy we visited some museums like Academy Gallery in Florence. There, we saw a very important Michelangelo’s sculpture called David. However, we visited other interesting places like the colorful houses in Murano, Venice’s gondolas, Pisa’s tower, the Toscana and others. Casually, in Montecatini we met Johan Cruyff. He was inaugurating one of his shops in Italy.

The weather was really good because we went in June. Everyday was extremely sunny except the last day, which was quiet windy. The food was very good, too. Obviously, we ate everyday pasta and pizza. The hotel gave us only pasta and when we could go to restaurants we ate pizza. We didn’t have much dealing with the people from Italy but, for example, the shoppers and the hotel caretaker were really friendly with us.

The thing I like the most of Italy was Venice. Riding on a gondola is extremely romantic, beautiful and relaxing. However, the thing I like the least was the rather bad smell of the canals. Another thing I like a lot is Florence. We went shopping there and it was fantastic and crowded. It was an extremely beautiful trip, so I would to visit Italy again and I recommend it for everyone.

LETTER ABOUT FESTES DEL TURA

25 Abingdon Street
London
LO25 1UE

1st October 2009
Dear Sally,

I’m sorry! I couldn’t write to you because I had a lot of exams last week and I didn’t have time. In your last letter you asked me when the local celebration in Olot is. Festes del Tura is the most important and funny celebration in Olot.
On the first week of September, people from Olot are always impatient for Festes del Tura. They take place from 4th to 8th of September, more or less. There are 5 days of celebration and a lot of people from all Catalonia come here.
Festes del Tura start at 4th in the afternoon with the procession of our giants and in these days, people put up Olot’s flag on the balconies.
All the nights, there are a lot of concerts and young people go out to enjoy themselves. On Sunday, we always dress up in elegant clothes and we watch the dance of giants and then, all the family gets together at home and we have lunch, so my mother prepares special meals for a lot of people. On Monday’s night, there is the Turinada. I think this is the best event of Festes del Tura so everybody dances in the street and people from the balconies throw us water. It is very funny!
The last day at the night, there are fireworks displays in the bullring and, unfortunately, Festes del Tura finish.
I think that after my explanation you will want to come next year.
Why not? Why don’t you come here next year on Festes del Tura? You’d love it!

Write soon,

Laia Peracaula
